Communication . Comprehension . Cooperation For A Better Future in Sino-U.S. Relations The American Studies Center of Peking University is dedicated to improving communication, comprehension, and cooperation between the United States and the People's Republic of China. Founded in 1898, Peking University (Beida) is the premier institution of higher learning in China and home of the nation's first American Studies Program (1980). During its 1998 centennial celebration, Peking University welcomed students and scholars as well as government and business leaders to the new quarters and expanded study facilities of the American Studies Center (ASC). With public- and private-sector support, the university initiated a vigorous renewal of the Center. Through the ASC, Peking University aims to foster long-term mutual understanding between China and the United States, to advance the field of interdisciplinary American studies in China, and to take best advantage of the university extensive resources. With Americanist specialists in the Departments of History, Economics, Communications, Law, Management, Sociology, International Relations, English, Literature, and the Arts, the ASC aims to move American studies in China beyond the confines of a single issue or discipline. Peking University hopes that its American Studies Center will become the leading Chinese facility for the integration of academic and applied experience with the U.S. |
