Research Centre for Eastern Literature, Peking University
The Research Center for Eastern Literature was founded in March 2000. In line with relevant policies of the State Ministry of education and the administrative restructuring of the research system, Beijing University decided to to establish an institution especially for eastern literature research. The newly established centre was based on the former Department of Oriental Studies and Institute of Oriental Culture. The State Ministry of Education, after an examination by experts, approved it as one of “the National Key Research Institutes of Humanities and Social Sciences”.
The Research Centre for Eastern Literature consists of four research departments: Ancient Philology and Literature, Modern Literature, Literature Theory, Culture and Comprehensive Research, along with a Library and an administration office.
In accordance with relevant policies of the State Ministry of Education, Each research member of the centre has signed a contract on research task with the centre and is only employed during the period of the relevant project undertaken by him.
The Research Center is directly under Peking University and the guidance of the State Ministry of Education. The director of the Centre is appointed by the President of Peking University and any other (including vice director(s), researchers and administration staff) are appointed by the Centre director.
Professor Ji Xianlin is the Life Honourable Director.
