Institute of Population Research

      Teaching Programme

       

The Institute offers the following graduate courses: population and economy, the sociology of demography, demographic methods and application, the social science aspects of reproductive health, the use of computer in population study, business demography, the demography of regional management, introduction to demography, the study of classical demographic literatures, population geography, special seminars on population issues.

The Institute has a graduate programme leading to the Master of Arts degree in demography and a programme offering the Doctoral degree with specialization in demography. It is also a sub-training center of Peking University for post-doctoral research fellows in social sciences. At the present, it has nine students participated in the Ph.D programme, 21 students in the M.A. programme, and two post-doctoral research fellows.

In early 1991, the Institute became a World Health Organization Collaborative Research Center on Reproductive Health. Supported by the Government of China and international organizations on population, the Institute offers limited financial assistance to both the Chinese and foreign students.

The Institute has supported more than 20 of its faculty members to study abroad. Eleven of them have returned and are playing an active role in the research and teaching work of the Institute.
